A UK Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an interconnected system of servers deployed in multiple data centers across the Internet. The goal is to provide content rapidly to end-users by duplicating the content on multiple servers and directing the content to users based on proximity. By serving from a closer location, the performance of the website increases and by using multiple servers redundancy and the ability to cope with spikes in traffic is significantly improved. CDNs also offload the traffic served directly from the website provider's origin infrastructure, resulting in reduced bandwidth costs.
