My laptop barely left the kitchen table for the first eight months I used Wave, and then our small crew scattered across three time zones for a project stretch. That's when I really found out what this software is made of. Pulling up client invoices from a hotel room in Vancouver, reconciling transactions on my phone between meetings, checking whether a payment had cleared while I was waiting for a flight, all of it worked without any drama. The mobile browser experience is genuinely usable, which is more than I can say for the spreadsheet chaos we had before.
The invoicing flow deserves a mention on its own. I can build and send a professional-looking invoice from my phone in under three minutes. Payment reminders go out automatically, which matters a lot when you're juggling four clients and not sitting at a desk all day. The receipt capture is handy too. I photograph a receipt right after a purchase and it's logged before I've even left the parking lot. For a free core product, the feature set is genuinely impressive.
My one real frustration is customer support. There's no live chat or phone line, and when I hit a confusing issue with a bank connection last spring, the help article didn't cover my specific situation. I ended up in a back-and-forth email thread that took longer than it should have. It resolved fine, but the wait was stressful. If you're running lean and need quick answers, just know that self-serve is mostly what you get. For most day-to-day work though, Wave has been a solid fit for me this past year.
