The UI is just... good. Not in a flashy, overpromising way, but in the quiet, reliable way that makes you realize how much bad software you've tolerated before. Every screen feels considered. The navigation doesn't make me think, which sounds like a low bar, but trust me, most accounting tools clear that bar by pure accident. Two years in and I still haven't found a corner of Dext that feels neglected or bolted on as an afterthought.
Day to day, the workflow is genuinely pleasant. I'm a one-person bookkeeping operation with a handful of small clients, and the supplier rule system means I'm not re-categorizing the same coffee shop expense for the fifteenth time. The mobile app deserves a specific mention: I've used receipt capture tools that felt like a chore to open, and this isn't one of them. The OCR picks up line items cleanly, the review queue is easy to process in a few minutes, and the whole thing moves at a pace that doesn't make me want to put it down.
If I'm being honest, customer service response times have occasionally felt slow when I've had a billing question, nothing critical, just not instant. And the pricing, for a solo practice, does require a bit of justification compared to a basic spreadsheet setup. But once you're past that mental hurdle, the time you save on data entry and clean-up easily covers it. I'd tell any bookkeeper considering Dext to just spend a week with it. The interface alone will probably make the decision for you.
