New staff arriving in a nonprofit setting come with a lot of questions and not a lot of patience for clunky systems. What struck me most in those early weeks with Sage HR was how little hand-holding our new hires needed. The onboarding module lays everything out clearly, tasks appear in the right order, and employees can check their own leave balances and goals from day one without emailing me twice. That first-week experience used to be a mess of spreadsheets and forwarded PDFs. Not anymore.
Three years in and I still think the onboarding flow is the product's strongest card. They've refined it over time, and the org chart visibility has been a genuine help for new people trying to figure out who does what. Customer support has been quick whenever I've raised anything, which matters when you're the only HR person in the building. Value for a smaller education-adjacent organization is very fair. I'd point any peer in this sector straight to it.
