Admin configuration on a solo setup can go one of two ways: either the product assumes you have an IT department behind you, or it trusts that you know what you're doing and just gets out of the way. Chabi is firmly the latter. From the moment I started configuring my workspace about six months ago, the permissions architecture made sense. Granular controls, clear labels, and nothing buried three menus deep. As a freelancer managing data pipelines for several clients at once, being able to compartmentalize access cleanly without needing to raise a support ticket every time is worth a lot.
The role-based permissions UI is where Chabi really earns its keep for me. Setting up project-level access, adjusting visibility on specific datasets, toggling query permissions per connection... all of it feels considered rather than bolted on. I did hit one snag early on: resetting certain inherited permissions required more steps than felt necessary, and the documentation for that particular edge case was thin. Their support team sorted it out quickly once I reached out, which softened the frustration considerably.
For a solo operator running a tight ship, the configuration experience has honestly reduced the mental load I carry around client data governance. Everything I set up persists correctly, behaves predictably, and hasn't surprised me once in half a year. That consistency matters more than any flashy feature. If you're a freelancer evaluating data warehouse platforms and you worry about whether the admin layer will feel like a full-time job in itself, Chabi genuinely won't give you that headache.
