Good support is the thing nobody talks about until they desperately need it. I started using Picture Instruments tools a little over three years ago, working solo on product photography for e-commerce clients, and in that time I've had maybe five or six moments where something broke, confused me, or just wasn't behaving the way I expected. Every single time, their support team showed up fast and actually understood what I was asking. Not a generic FAQ link. Real answers, often within a few hours.
The software itself earns its keep. Color correction workflows that used to eat up my afternoons now move quickly, and the plugin integration with my editing suite is tight enough that I barely think about it anymore. I had one issue last spring where a plugin update conflicted with my setup. I sent a message half-expecting to wait days. Someone got back to me the same afternoon, walked me through a fix, and followed up the next day to check that it had held. That follow-up, unprompted, is what I still think about.
For a freelancer running everything alone, customer service quality matters more than most buyers probably weight it during evaluation. You don't have an IT department to call. When something goes wrong at midnight before a client deadline, you're on your own unless the company behind the tool actually cares. Picture Instruments cares. The pricing is fair for what you get, the features cover my needs without unnecessary bloat, and the people behind it treat solo users like real customers. That's not a given in this space.
