Free and actually functional — that combination still surprises me every time I log in. I picked up Pandle for a small client who balks at monthly software fees, and honestly I wasn't expecting much. What I got was a clean interface that handles invoicing, bank imports, and VAT tracking without burying me in menus I'll never use.
The bank reconciliation flow is genuinely straightforward. I can match transactions and flag anything odd without bouncing between five screens. Where it falls short is reporting — the options feel a bit thin if your client wants anything beyond the basics. I've also had a couple of moments where customer support took longer to respond than I'd like, which is frustrating mid-month when a client's asking questions. Still, for a free tier, the value is hard to argue with. If you're managing books for a small UK-based operation, it's worth a serious look.
